I pass one of those small "Entering Mojave National Preserve" signs on my approach to Malpais Spring
Actually, I forgot that I was outside Mojave National Preserve and that parts of it don't extend all the way to the California-Nevada border. The road is smoother here, so I'm back on the bike riding slowly, with Castle Peaks in the distance.
